L
5
Capital Ian m ement Program Committee
Minutes
February 5.2013
RECREATION:
StoM.e.Shed— ark-$20-4000:
Heidi McLaughlin was in attendance to review capital needs of the Recreation
Department for fiscal year 2014. A basic ' x 14' equipment shed is proposed at
ttaquin Park as the current storage facility is in disrepair. The small metal
storage shed was purchased in the 1990's. A new building is necessary to secure
seasonal recreational equipment at the park.
It was noted the Town approved ars article last May to fund a similar shed at
South Cape Town Beach at a cost of$25,000. The 'xl4' weather resit
building with a garage door and overhang for sun protection was constructed ucted b
the DPW for$8,000.
The storage shed proposed by the Recreation Department sloes not requfre a
garage door and the cost to construct the small building would most likely be
considerably less.
It was agreed that funding would be placed in the DPW operating budget as a
separate line item for the one-time expose.
29 Passenger Bus--X49,000ffAuced
*$45 00l I
The replacement of the RecreationDepartment's 1999, 15 passenger van has been
an ongoing CIP request. lust year, it was reported the vehicle had 80,000 miles
of wear and the floor is now visibly deteriorating.
A new vehicle would allow for the continued trausportation of youth to various
sites Within the'down of Mashpee and on out-of-town trips. The cost of a new
passenger van has been reduced from$49,000 t $45,000.
To date, the Recreation Department has expended$12,000 on ft=Vortation
maces. Transportation costs are expected to increase with the upcoming
Febmary and April school vacations.
Catherine Latent,Director of Public Works indicated the vehicle is in need of
body work and approximately$3,000 has been expended to date in short-tern
repairs.
