Council on Aging
Monthly Report
January 2013 Overview
There were staffing changes during the month, most notably the retirement of the Director James
Long on January 25. Outreach Coordinator Lynne Waterman was appointed the new Director on
January 28, and has been handling both jobs, and will continue to do so until a new Outreach
Coordinator is hired.
Also, substitute van driver Lewis Newell became the permanent van driver, and two candidates
were hired to be the substitute van drivers. Additionally, the afternoon receptionist from the
Mature Worker's Program went out on medical leave at the end of January, and is expected to
return at the end of February.
Our grant funded Activity Coordinator is working with the Director to develop new, ongoing
activities, as well as one time educational presentations and social activities. The Activity
Coordinator spent much of January familiarizing herself with existing council on aging activities,
and as well as compiling a list of entertainers.
The Volunteer Coordinator spent much of her time interviewing and training five new
volunteers, including three new volunteer drivers. Our total numbers of volunteers is
approximately two-hundred and twenty-five.
During January there were one hundred and five individual van riders, and fourteen volunteer
rides.
The Senior Property Tax Program continued to accept applicants, and twenty-seven of the forty-
three applicants were accepted and assigned to various town departments, such as the library,
recreation, senior center, town clerk, treasurer, and schools. There are three slots to be filled.
During January we mailed one thousand, nine-hundred and seventy-six newsletters, and
distributed one-hundred to other locations in town, including the library and town hall, Asher's
Path Apartments, Mashpee Chamber of Commerce, and Southport Retirement Community.
Telephone calls into the senior center ranged from twelve to sixty-six, (January 2"d), depending
on the day of the week.
Short Term Goals
Plan three new programs for March.
Evaluate all building and file keys, and reorganize into new key box.
Interview and train new Outreach Coordinator.
Respectfully Submitted,
L,wwe
Lynne Waterman
LFwdcw y
