i <br /> Mashpee Environmental oversight Committee <br /> Minutes of Meeting <br /> January 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. <br /> Mashpee Town Hall, Room <br /> Present: Chairman George Petersen, Selectman John Cahalane, Rick York,Peter White <br /> Absent: Ted Theis <br /> CALL To ORDER <br /> The meeting was opened by Chairman Petersen at 7;10 p.m. <br /> APPROVAL of MIEETIl o MEWTES December 1 , 2012 <br /> Mr, York offered corrections to the minutes on page 2. <br /> Mr, York made a motion to accept the minutes with changes on page 2 to read "only 5 <br /> million oysters would remove 2.5 tons of nitrogen and the associated bacterial <br /> denitrification would remove another 2.5 tons of nitrogen, for a total of 5 tons from <br /> i Popponesset Bay. In wa uoit,30 million quahogs would remove 6 tuns of nitrogen, <br /> assisting with 213 of the cleanup." Selectman Cahalane seconded the motion. All voted <br /> unanimously, <br /> Co CATIONS <br /> Where was no public comment. <br /> NEW USI ESS <br /> Chairman Petersen announced that additional funds would be available from the State to address <br /> the restoration and maintenance of Massachusetts' darns. ]fir. York noted that it was <br /> significant amount of money. The Chair will seek additional information to report to the <br /> Committee. Mr. York confirmed that the Santuit darn would be worked on in the spring and that <br /> the pond was being lowered in preparation for repairs. <br /> ACTION I'T'EMS UPDATE <br /> EstuaryRestoration/Shellfish Propagation <br /> Mi. York stated that he had recently presented to the Waterways Commission and was receiving <br /> feedback about his proposal. Mr. York announced that Mashpee had been awarded ars <br /> Americorps Week grant for May allowing more than 20 volunteers to assist with Conservation <br /> and the shellfish project expansion. M-_ York indicated that the volunteers would assist with <br /> building 10more oyster seed trays to double the Town's oyster production. Americorps would <br /> also be assisting during the summer with the oyster and quahog propagation project and a Town <br /> Article will be submitted seeking funds for an additional 1,0 00 oyster seed bags and 10 million <br /> quahog seed and gear. Mr. York continues to finalize the shellfish component of Mashpee' <br /> Watershed Nitrogen Management Flan, known by the Mate as the CWNT. The Town Meeting <br /> Article was expected to total no more than 2001500 to assist with the first phase of the clean-up. <br /> Additional funds would be requested over the next two years. <br /> Chairman Petersen inquired about the Cook case and its impact to Mr. York's plan. Selectman <br /> Cahalane responded that the first ruling was in favor of'the Board of Selectmen issuing the <br /> license on all counts, but that there would still be 90 days to allow for ars appeal. liar.
