reported that Conservation's decision had been appealed. The Chair inquired whether Mr. <br /> Cook's farm would assist vith nitrogen clean-up efforts but it was noted that the neighbors <br /> objected to the proposed location of the aquaculture fes. Mr-. York did not believe that their <br /> response to Mr. Cook's farm would impact the Shellfish Propagation Project, adding that his <br /> plan would be cost effective and love risk. Additionally, his plan would not include shellfish <br /> farms other than the Tribe's. <br /> W. York also announced that he would be submitting a proposal along v ith individuals from <br /> WHOI and 1 r L for a National Science Foundation grant to measure the bacteria and <br /> denitrification in Mashpee"s oyster beds in the Mashpee River. Another component of the study <br /> would research seaweed in Wauoit Bay as a means to clean up the bay. There was additional <br /> discussion regarding natural means to assist with n'trogen removal and EP's recent allowance <br /> of adaptive management. <br /> Santuit Pond Water Quality <br /> Mr. York reported that data was received from the State Department of Health confirming that <br /> Sechi disk readings were within the range ofMashpee's reading that show eater clarity. The <br /> State has recently stopped taking phosphorus readings following a study that began 4 years ago. <br /> Mr. York pointed out that it was'Important 'Information, but noted that Mashpee continued to <br /> conduct sampling monthly, along With additional sampling in the summer. The blue-green algae <br /> had disappeared for the winter. <br /> Phosphorus Management for Fresh water Ponds <br /> Mr. York indicated that he would forward the information regarding Nantucket's bylaw to <br /> members of the Committee. <br /> i <br /> Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant <br /> Mr. White stated that he had forwarded information to Committee members about the vents. Mr. <br /> White stated that there was no evacuation plan available to the Cape should an event occur at <br /> Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant, Mr. White recommended inviting Fire Chief George Baker to the <br /> next meeting to provide a briefing about the action that should be taken- <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Water Quality Monitoring <br /> Mr. York reported that water quality was stable, that there were no fish kills in 2012 and that the <br /> solar circulators had improved the clarity of the water in Santuit Pond. <br /> Combine water-Sewer <br /> Selectman Cahalane reported that Town Counsel would be releasing a letter recommending that <br /> the Town not fret sign agreements as the Water District would be managing Sewer activities, by <br /> vote at Town Meeting. Mr. York stated that the Town had been responsible for planning and <br /> was almost complete and Selectman Cahalane stated that a request for funds was expected from <br /> the Sewer Commission to study taking over two privately owned waste water treatment facilities. <br /> There was discussion regarding taxing for water and sewer. Mr. York announced that the <br /> County had a computer modeling program available to towns that could be an option for the <br /> Sever Comrru*ssion. Mr. York indicated that he would follow up wvith W. Pudala. Selectman <br /> Cahalane will forward a copy of Toon.Counsel's letter to the Conittee. <br /> 2 <br />
