t <br /> Mashpee Environmental oversight Commute <br /> Minutes of Meeting <br /> December 16, 2014 at 6:30 p.m* <br /> Mashpee Town Hall, wagoit Meeting Room <br /> Present: Chairman George Petersen, Rick York, Mike Talbot, Drew McManus <br /> Absent: Selectman John Chalane, Ted Theis <br /> CALIF To ORDER <br /> The meeting was opened by Chairman Petersen at 6-35 p.m. with a quorum. <br /> APPROVAL of MEETING MINUTES November 18, 2014 <br /> Mr. Talbot's recommended change had been incorporated into the minutes <br /> #r. Talbot made a notion to approve the meeting minutes of November 18, 2014 as amended. <br /> Mr. York seconded the motion. All voted unanimously. <br /> Chairman Petersen indicated that he would follow up with Mr. Theis regarding whether or not he had <br /> relocated and planned to resign from the Committee. <br /> C0 1 ICATIONS <br /> Mr. Talbot referenced.an email and notes regarding Board of Selectmen notions about the Sewer <br /> Commission but suggested that it be discussed during the Combine water-Sewer Update. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> The Chair requested that the Committee consider voting in new committee positions at the next <br /> meeting as he would need to step don from the role of Chair. <br /> ACTION ITEMS S UPI AT <br /> Estuary restoration/Shellfish Propagation <br /> Mr. York reported that he had submitted a proposal along with WHOI to the NOAA National Marine <br /> Fisheries Service. Funding requested totaled $372,,000 to build oyster reefs to create a commercial <br /> ester fishery,jobs and to restore water quality. Mr. York discussed the benefits of a biodegradable <br /> bag that would be used in the project and would assist with the seeding process. The response to the <br /> grant was anticipated prior to next summer and would be a two year project. <br /> Pond & Estuary water Quality <br /> Mr. York stated that there had been no decline and Haat it had been a good year for growing shellfish. <br /> Mr. Talbot noted that.George eichenbacher's data from PALS would not be available until January. <br /> 1r. York also indicated that the Santuit Pond algae bloom was controlled by Solar Bee circulators and <br /> the other ponds were in good shape. The Chair inquired about Mashpee waeby and Mr. York <br /> responded that issues discussed had involved erosion concerns and Mr. McManus suggested that it <br /> seemed to be a recreational issue. Both agreed that it likely was not a major impact to erosion. There <br /> was also discussion regarding the potential of introducing invasives and there was agreement that a <br /> greater problem would be local invasies. It was noted that any charges would need to be approved by <br /> Sandwich and could be over ridden by the State. <br />
