Minutes of Meeting of
Design Review Committee
Held Tuesday, November 6, 2018
Mashpee Town Hall Waquoit Meeting Room
Tim said that the clients wanted a more modern looking building with traditional materials.
There are shed reforms off to the side, and the central gable that links the two pieces and
supports glass. Glazing is kept to the center of the building where the public interacts with
the building to create a welcoming approach for visitors. The rest of the building is limited
to the amount of punch glass. Much of the building will have solid walls expect for the public
facing area, and the front elevation area has the most glass. The front has a stone veneer
base and has a natural tone colors. The upper portion of the building is a clapboard type
of design but the material itself is hardy board for durability. There's three colors, a primary
trim color which is off while, a field color which is blue/grey, and a dark trim color that works
with the stone and the base of the building. The store front is black aluminum.
The roof shingles are standard architectural composite shingles colonial slate which picks
up the same colors in the stone. The fencing around the play yards are 6 ft. tall vinyl so the
dogs don't see beyond that section, and will deter them to be quieter, and improves the
esthetic of the area. There is lighting on the building and there is some parking lot lighting
as well. The lighting is photometric that registers zero of the candies on all property lines.
Mr. Mendoza said the lighting needs to remain on the site and not spilling out. .
Mr. Scott Learned, of Design Learned, Inc. is the primary designer of the building. He said
he provides building designs for kennels, veterinary hospitals, and shelters for animals. He
typically hires local architectural and civil support for their projects. He said his company is
responsible for the interior, mechanical electrical, and plumbing engineering. He said
there's a lot of effort to reduce stimulation of the dogs, so they remove low level windows
to reduce noise. There are typically two levels of security, the final design will have privacy
fencing, and some chain link or equivalent fence inside the privacy fence approximately 2-
3 ft. in, and keeps the dogs from jumping over the fencing. There's either a leash and a
door, or a leash and a fence. He said there will be limited outside lighting in the parking
areas with a minimum of 2 ft. candles or a little more near the means of egress of the
building. There's a wall pack at each of the dog areas, and those will allow the clients to
see where the animal is in the yard.
Mr. Blaisdell commented he is very happy with the look of the building. He didn't have any
more comments except that there will be a lot more questions at the Zoning Board meeting.
Mr. Cummings commented that he likes the look of the building. He didn't have any more
comments.
Mr. Cummings made a motion to accept the site appearance for 31 Evergreen Circle. Mr.
Blaisdell seconded. No further discussion.
