SOUTH CAPE BEACH
JULY 26, 1994
PAGE TWO
I Hunting on south Cape Beach, 1994/95 hunting season (Continued)
M. Kirsner asked for R. Flemming's views relative to the pos-
sible conflict of hunting and development of the New Town Beach.
R. Flemming presented the idea of curtailing the hunting on
the East side of the main road for the construction period;to
allow hunting on the left side of the road. Mr. Flemming shaded
in the areas on a couple of beach maps where he would recommend
no hunting during the construction phases. He stated, however,
if there should be any problem with the construction people
relative to hunting continuing during the construction period,
he recommended curtailing hunting altogether during the construc-
tion phase. He recommended for the present, to play it by ear.
The meeting was open to questions by the committee which included
1. Discussion of vandalism of signs; observation of hunting
laws.
. The opinion that decreasing the total area of hunting,
seems to increase the pressure on the remainder.
3. If hunting should be allowed until such time as it
appears too dangerous to have it continue, how do we
get word out to the hunters so that they would be rade
awake of the restrictions .
4, safety issues at . ,B increased year-round tourist
activity, naturalist tours through s. .E.
Perry Ellis, resident of Town of Mashpee, suggested, as far as
patrols were concerned, we have a new cadre coming out of
EPO' s which also patrol that area during hunting season. Their
concerns are people walling in that area. He stated he posted
signs stating "Trails are closed. " He suggested that a sign as
you eater -the park which would state, "Hunting Season is On" ,
might not be a had idea
The consensus of the committee was that hunting should continue
as previous gears, until construction is ready to begin. At
that time, the committee should consult with the contractors to
get their views*
J. Monaghan made a motion that hunting be continued under* the
same ales which have been in force in the past, until such time
as we find out who the contractor is , and his views
Motion was seconded. Put to a vote
APPROVED: 4
DISAPPROVED
