SOUTH CAPE BEACH
11/17/9
PAGE rOUR
II DISCUSSION of PROPOSED NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
The members of the committee were given copies of W. Wood' s
correspondence. Chin. Kirsner suggested that each member render
their individual opinions. Morris indicated that he would
speak to Bob Whritenour with reference to whether thecom-
mittee may get involved. M. Kirsner was unsure that this was
within the realm of the committee, but he would follow up on
it.
Put to an informal vote, the majority of the committee was
in favor of the wildlife refuge.
III GROUND BR AKING CEREMONY:
M. Kirsner explained that on November 7, 1994 there had been
a ground breaking ceremony. Several members of the oonunittee
were in attendance, Commissioner Webber, Bob Whritenour, Paul
Botelho, the selectmen. It was a very important meeting.
For those who were unable to attend, when the facility is
completed in May 1995, there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Many years ago, M. Kirsner had a cormittment from Commissioner
Kendall that when this day was reached, there would be a mon-
ument installed with the names of the committee members, past
and present, inscribed on a placque. Morris plans to renew
that commi ttment with Commissioner Webber.
hm. Kirsner- has designated Catherine Conroy to assemble the
names of all of the past and present members so that their
names will be brought forth as having played an acture role
in this accomplishment.
Iv THE MANAGEMENT PLAN:
M. Kirsner explained the committee must get involved in the
management. Morris had written a letter tP Commissioner
Webber, to Mark Cullinen, Paul Botelho to the effect that
the committee must get involved in the management. At the
next meeting of the committee, we want to know the details
of their meetings , since the town definitely plans to get
involved,
m. Kirsner explained that once the beach is completed,
and the road is finished, two of the major* objectives of
the 1981 Agreement would have been accomplished. As the
McGregor Road facility is concerned, that will not be the
end of the role of the advisory committee. Morris explained
that mare of the townspeople do not know what there rights
will be with reference to McGregor Road Facility. Morris
explained that he was preparing an article which should
appear in the newpapers which will discuss the rights of
the citizens, the history of South Cape Beach, etc.
