He is a boat owner and is semi-retired with a lot
of time to devote .
His professional background is sales manager with a major
manufacturer of cameras and optical goods for 30 years ,
namely Nikon .
Mr . Hanks stated the Commission has kicked around for some
time the question of speed limits in Ockway Bair and asked
if Mr . Silver felt boats should be allowed to go on plane in
a channel or should they be restricted to a "no wake"
situation?
Mr . Silver thought it was important to allow boats to go at a
higher speed within the channel for two reasons: one , it
helps keep the channel clear and the other thing is that
unless they were planing , he did not know if they would get
back to land ; they would be wiped out because it is s
shallow there . At . dead low they would not even get in there .
As long as the channel is marked properly , that the
important thing . The problem has been there has not been
sufficient marking len the Bay .
Mr . Fordham advised , by law , one cannot speed within 150 feet
of shore .
Mr . Silver stated water skiers along the shore line is the
major problem; this is dangerous and is a violation .
Mr . Fordham asked if he would go along with all the laws , the
state .haws and the bylaw? Mr . Salver stated he would ,
absolutely .
Mr . Lund asked how Mr . Silver felt he could help this
commission? Mr . Silver stated that is a difficult question
because he does not know what the issues are or how deep the
problems go lout he would attempt to assist the m issi n .
Mr . Schwartz as ked how many times he saw water skiing in
ockway Bay last summer and Mr . Silver stated many , many ,
times .
