SOUTH CAPE BEACH
JUNE 259 1996
PAGE
III DISCUSSION OF HUNTING; (Cont'd)
W. Woods made a motion that the question of poll voting, the issue of voting
when a member was not present, be submitted to Town Counsel for an opinion.
t
J. Monaghan recommended that the issue of hunting be closed.
IV DISCUSSION OF GATE AT WILLS WORD ROAD
Morris explained that relative to discussion at the last meeting, there were
various options; there were volunteer groups who were going to take hold;
there was a suggestion of a key being given to hunters after filing an
application; there was a neighborhood association who for a period of time
monitored the gates. Then there was a question of a release of responsibility
the association would have to sign. That became a problem. The options had
been discussed at length.
Morris asked Christine Gault to discuss her position relative to the gate:
Christine stated that' the official DEM .policy, as supported by a recent meeting
n Boston with the Director of Forests and Parks, who confirmed that the
Commissioner of DEM also supported the polio: "'The gate will be opened by
the South Cape Beach staff during the surer at 7:30 a. m. - It had been closed
by their staff at 6:00 p. m. Beginning July 1st, when they would have
larger staff, the gate would remain open until 8 P. m."
1
Christine continued that there were discussions-under way with Steve perry
about the possibility that the windsurfer , -Steve in particular, will take
responsibility for closing the gate at 9:00 p. m.
Christine had had a discussion with Police Chief. Br ybylek. Chief Br ybylek
F also offered his advice and support as needed for public safety issues. i
There had been numerous discussions and memos back and forth between WBNBRR
r
amd DFM, and the above was the, official. policy.
Christine further explained that the sportsmen, windsurfers, and all the
a users have been very good partners in helping there to manage that area.
Discussion among the public and the committee followed.
M. Rirsner stated we were trying to look at any viable solution for this
situation. He knew of no other solution other than what had been recommended
by Christine.
Ben Lofchie made a motion that the committee accept the. off inial DEM policy
relative to the gate. J. Monaghan seconded. All in favor. So moved.
Having no further business before it, J. Monaghan made a motion that the
meeting adjourn at 8:05 p. m.
Respectfully submitted,
'Ccu
dannon
Barbara
Board Secretary
