S. C. B.
6/7/05
P. 5
Lance stated that we have the Agreement of 1981 which states that
they were going to give us the land. Then, in 1989 a bill was
passed that said that the State connot give anything to the Town
without compensation. So, we should go to them and say we are
grandfathered. That really has nothing to do with our contract.
So, without sueing the State, how do you get it done?
The last couple of years, the State has not been in the financial
situation to give away any land. Over the next years Lance sug-
gested, that you are going to see some surplus; you are going to
see Romney selling some land to raise some money. There is a lot
of land that they have. During that time, I think they will have
more of an appetite to say, "those old Agreements that we have" I
think State Senator, Therese Murray, when it comes the right time,
I think she is going to flex a little bit.
Jack stated that Mashpee Town Counsel will have to start it from
Mashpee and work through. It is going to take some time. But, ,
at least we won't have to be going through the many meetings. We
just want to attend the important meetings where the negotiations
are taking place. Jack stated that he was going to stay close to
Joyce Mason on this . If we get the sense that she can define what
the problems are, as Town Counsel sees them, that would be the time
to have some input on specific issues. Jack stated that was what
was in the back of his mind of how to approach this, doing what the
committee wanted him to do.
Jack explained that this was the last meeting that Barbara Gannon
would cover. Barbara has given her notice and her term will end
on June 30, 2005 . Personnel has selected a new board secretary to
work with the South Cape Bach Advisory Committee.
Jack asked for a motion to say, "Thank you to Barbara for being a
fantastic secretary. " Bill Martiros introduced the motion. Lance
seconded. So moved.
VII ADJOURNMENT:
Having nothing further to discuss , Jack asked for a motion to adjourn.
Carrie Murphy introduced a motion to adjourn. Jerry Smith seconded.
All in favor. So moved.
The meeting adjourned at 6 : 45 P. M.
Respectfully submitted,
"All
ora Ganno
Board Secretor
