S. C. B.
6/7/os
P. 4
Jack explained that we want to establish a close relationship with
WBNERR and this was just a courtesy to let us know that this was
going on, not that we would have any say one way or the other. It
is good to know the people that we are working with.
Joe Souza had asked that we show in our minutes that we had asked
that there be more life guards on South Cape Beach. He had felt
that if we went on record, he could then push it up the ladder
through his budgeting process and perhaps it would help. Evidently
it didn't help, perhaps it was that the money just wasn' t going to
be there. However, I know that Joe feels , and anyone who is down
at that beach knows that there will eventually be a fatality. If you
don't have sufficient personnel (lifeguards) . That, probably is
sadly what will get the thing to where it should be.
Let us, each of us think of the things that are important for the
committee to accomplish. We haven't been able to get past the ten
acre site. At the last meeting that Morris presided over, there
was a list that Bill and Jerry prepared comprised of undone pieces
of business. What's important to the committee? What is important
to each one of you? How should we organize ourselves? We certainly
have enough political savvy on this committee as far as what we have
to do to make it a salable thing.
Bill suggested that those issues of things to be done should be put
on the agenda . for the next meeting for discussion.
Carrie suggested relative to the ten acre site issue, would it help
if we had a meeting at WBNERR with some of the WBNERR people? Are
they the ones who are going to hold themselves on this?
Jack stated that he feels that Christine is going to try to get the
new commissioner down here, but that has been difficult because there
are a number of parks , etc. , . who want to meet with the new commissioner.
But Christine will have a major input on this because from what I
gather, she has some concerns that may run counter to the positions
we have taken. So those things will all have to be negotiated. If
the minutes will show this, I will call Christine to ask her about
this. I' ll' ask Joe Souza' s advice on this.
Bill suggested that it was pretty clear-cut in the Agreement about
the ten acres. Since then there have been different issues put on
it. WBNERR has come up with a whole group of issues that have no-
thing to do with transferring the ten acre site. That' s where it
was left. .
Jack explained that we were out of the loop. It is now the Town of
Mashpee that is going to resolve this, but we want to be represented
at the table. I am not so sure that it is appropriate for us to
meet unilaterally with Christine Gault. We are not in control.
