*APPROVED DECEMBER 11, 2018*
Capital Improvement Program Committee
Minutes
December 6, 2028
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS (can't)
_School Department (con't)
MMHS Auditorium Lighting System can't
Mr. Gottlieb mentioned that perhaps they could use the Cape Light Compact and Mr. Richardson
said that perhaps it could be done in stages. Chairman Collins said it was very hard to see the
audience from the stage and Assistant Superintendent Hanscom agreed that it is a bad system.
Mr. Collins asked if there were any more questions and there were none.
MMHS Cafeteria Li-ghting Total Funds:$25,000
The Superintendent said the lighting in the cafeteria only aims up at the ceiling and there are no
lights in the ceiling and she doesn't know what the answer is for proper lighting in the MMHS
cafeteria. Andrew Gottlieb asked where the School Department got the amount of $25,000 for
this request and Patricia DeBoer responded that it was a guess, School Technology Director
Moroney suggested that lighting could be placed where the wall comes down in the cafeteria.
Mr. Richardson asked if one company had been looked at to take care of the auditorium and the
cafeteria and perhaps get a better price and Mr. Moroney said the project in the auditorium
(lighting and sound) was looked at to combine.
MMHS Library Upgrades Total Funds:$100,000
The Superintendent stated that the MMHS Library has many issues due in part to the age of the
building and in part to a poor design of the HVAC system that makes it impossible to hear when
it is running, The carpet is original, and they have explored getting new furniture and adding
stationary bikes to the room. Mr. Collins inquired about the stationary bikes and what they are
for in a library. Hope Hanscom explained that they are an established and proven way to get
people to read. Mr. Gasior asked why these type of requests for flooring or for that matter all
building requests are not going through the Planning and Construction Committee process.
Patricia DeBoer stated that the Planning and Construction Committee uses the $50,000 in the
CIP to replace approximately six classrooms flooring. Sean Moroney went back to the noisy
HVAC system and explained that it is the conduit and lack. of noise insulation around it. Patricia
DeBoer explained that the vision of the schools is to make the library a center for expanded
learning. Mr. Collins asked if the carpeting was in sections and the Superintendent responded
that it was. Andrew Gottlieb asked what the estimated cost was based on and the
Superintendent responded it was based on the recent Quashnet School renovation costs. Mr.
Gasior brought up the Planning and Construction Committee again and said this should also be
going through that process.
3
