k��t�:coEvrv.or�,y <br /> Town of Mashme <br /> • , �' ' Shellfish Commission 16 Great Neck Road North <br /> 9+P,ysjEoP Mashpee,MA 02649 <br /> MINUTES OF MEETING 11-13-18 <br /> Attendance: <br /> William Holmes, Steven Marques, and Ashely Fisher. <br /> Public: Darryl Christensen, Mark Burtis, Chris Burtis, Joe Bohnenberger, and Lisa <br /> Bohnenberger. <br /> Convene Meeting: 7:00 PM <br /> Public Comment: None <br /> Approval of Minutes: <br /> 5-8-18 and 6-26-18 postponed <br /> Motion: Holmes made a motion to accept the minutes for 10-09-18 as written. Marques <br /> seconded the motion. All voted unanimously in favor. <br /> Department of Natural Resources Shellfish Constable Report: <br /> Oyster season kicked off November 1St. So far, all oysters are of variable sizes and <br /> year classes. The new southernmost site in the Mashpee River produced market sized <br /> oysters in less than two years. Cameras have been installed at the landing to monitor for <br /> oyster catch data. <br /> Approximately 40 crab traps have gone missing in Little and Great River. The <br /> shellfish division was able to recover 48 of the 88 traps that were deployed this summer <br /> to remove green crabs. Green crabs predate on smaller quahog seed. They are an invasive <br /> species that have taken off over the years, and they have had a direct effect on the amount <br /> of juvenile quahogs in the area. <br /> In November and December both the shellfish constable and waterways assistants <br /> will be assisting Mashpee High School students with their Science Fair projects this year. <br /> There was three students highly interested in pursuing a field in the environmental <br /> sciences. These students will be presenting projects that are focused on water quality and <br /> the succession of agricultural systems used in the past and their effects on local water <br /> quality. <br /> Over the past serval weeks the shellfish division formalized a plan for the <br /> volunteer program. That part of the report.will be given in old business. Shellfish <br /> Constable Ashley Fisher has also formalized a town shellfish mitigation plan for all new <br /> constructed docks to be built in shellfish suitability areas. The mitigation plan will be <br /> attached in its entirety in the additional topics section of the minutes. <br /> Motion: Marques made a motion to accept both the Volunteer and Mitigation Plans, <br /> Holmes seconded the motion. All voted unanimously in favor. <br />
