Elements of Community Shellfish Action Program: <br /> Assist Shellfish Constable in propagation activities: <br /> Help to clean shellfish and equipment at upweller facility; <br /> Shellfish growing in upweller systems need to be cleaned daily; cleaning means spraying <br /> each silo(container of seed)with fresh water to get rid of built-up sediment(probably 2 <br /> hours or less);cleaning of tank and silos as needed(usually once a week);group effort <br /> makes it a pretty quick job. <br /> Assist in oyster work as directed by shellfish constable i.e. Shell bag construction <br /> Assist in nursery activities as needed by shellfish constable i.e. field planting <br /> Assist in shellfish stock assessment i.e.digging transects(1 in x 1 in squares),counting <br /> population and species, and measuring each individual. <br /> Assist in planting quahog seed i.e.broadcast or predator netting. <br /> How community action program can work <br /> Initial meeting of interested participants <br /> Need for one person to co-ordinate volunteers <br /> Set up schedule for cleaning upweller with staff members <br /> Act as liaison between shellfish constable and volunteers <br /> Contact volunteers as needed <br /> Ensure the work is done as committed to by volunteers <br /> Tour of upweller facility <br /> Training by Shellfish Constable <br /> Begin upweller care when seed arrives <br /> Care for seed and equipment until transplanted to the field <br /> If you would like to join us,please contact Ashley Fisher. This volunteer program will help the <br /> department educate the public about our propagation program." <br /> Motion: Marques made a motion to accept the draft for the Community Shellfish Action <br /> Plan moving forward. Holmes seconded the motion. All voted unanimously. <br />
