Discussion: Matthew Costa, Cape & Island Engineering, CCA pressure-treated <br />piles: request of the Commission <br /> <br />Matt Costa, Cape & Island Engineering, stated he was requesting that the board <br />temporarily from one year of the date of their approval allow CCA pressure-treated piles. <br />He said the reason is that they are getting a lot of feedback from contractors that <br />reasonably priced alternatives are very hard to find and it is creating a hardship. The <br />pilings are getting very expensive due to the tariffs going on. There are substantial pricing <br />increases across the board and the most cost-effective way is to go with CCA pressure <br />treated. He noted Brewster and Barnstable has done this. Following a discussion, it was <br />agreed Mr. Costa would put something in writing comparing different materials and <br />information on pricing along with a statement from Rick York, Department of Natural <br />Resources. <br /> <br />6:24 Robert S. & Martha Johnson, 6 Jehu Pond Road. He noted this was continued and <br />at the last hearing there was a lot of discussion on the extension of the retaining wall along <br />the shore line. They did a site visit to evaluate the situation and look at alternatives. He <br />reviewed the area of the wall on the plan provided and noted where they are taking out the <br />old wall and continuing the wall along the shoreline. He noted the area where the wall was <br />a concern with the bank. They are proposing to stabilizing the bank by a sheet piling wall <br />and by using duck bill anchors. This is an intrusive solution that will solve the problem and <br />protect the salt marsh. He reviewed the removal/reconstruction of pier, ramp, float, and <br />concrete boat ramp. He noted they will be taking down the pine tree and replant behind <br />the wall and put a new landscape walkway down to the lower level. The Agent noted the <br />boat ramp stakes will be brought in a little tighter. He said he suggested because of the <br />proximity of work to the salt marsh that during that process there be a consultant on sight <br />to monitor the construction of the wall so we are assured the salt marsh is protected. The <br />debris on site will be removed which will be included in the order of conditions. There was <br />a discussion regarding the Agent’s request to have a monitor during the construction <br />period of the sheet pile wall to monitor construction to ensure compliance with the order of <br />conditions at the homeowner’s expense. It was decided the Conservation Department <br />would select an environmental monitor to monitor this portion of the project enough to <br />capture the scope of construction. The details will be left up to the Agent. <br /> <br />No Comment from the Public <br /> <br />Motion: Mr. Sweet moved to Close and Issue with the condition that the Agent <br />recommend a construction monitor wetland consultant for this project.
