Coombs School Council <br /> October 15,1997 <br /> Coombs School Conference Room <br /> 7 p.m. <br /> IN ATTENDANCE <br /> Florine Cragwell Nick Feldman <br /> Ellin Davis Karen Berube <br /> Sandra Dawes Sharon Sodekson <br /> MINUTES <br /> I- Florine poured the coffee for all in attendance. <br /> 2. Nick explained the concept of the school council including: <br /> a. parent involvement activities <br /> b. school budget recommendations <br /> c. discuss discipline issues <br /> d. as an advisory group to the principal <br /> e. to communicate with the community <br /> f. be aware of test scores <br /> 3. Nick stated that the principals would like the school councils of all <br /> schools to get together before the budget sessions of the school <br /> committee to set directions for what the schools need. <br /> 4. Nick passed out a Tetter from the school nurses asking for support of <br /> their proposal to increase health support for our schools. <br /> 5. Different aspects of the Ed. Reform effort were discussed including: <br /> a. the role of the Superintendent <br /> b. the role of the school committee <br /> c. testing <br /> d. curriculum frameworks <br /> 6. Sharon spoke of her experience with the Junior Achievement Program <br /> last year in Mrs. Newman's fifth grade. This was a positive <br /> experience for her and her perception is that it was rewarding for the <br /> students as well. <br /> 7. The Pennies for Plgyg[ound fundraiser will continue this year. <br /> 8. The next meeting date is December 10,1997, 6:30p.m., Coombs <br /> School Conference Room. <br /> P.S. Since our meeting, a joint School Councils Meeting has been set for <br /> November 18, 1997 at the High School. <br />
