Coombs School Council f Ma.shpee, Massachusetts 02643 J Meeting Minutes for October 14, 1998 Present: Nick Feldman Nancy Carter T Anri Colantuono Lois Hirshberg Judy.Moo-ney Kathy Smola _ Andy Troyanos. , L The meeting was called to order at 6:30 P.M0 . were was no one present far the Open Forum segment of the meetin . Nick Feldman % explained that the council was subject to open meeting law provisions. He also stated that we are still one parent short and that we would attempt to add community members as the- year progresses. - The main purpose of the school council is to be the advisory authority to the principal. A � brief history of the school council's evolution at the state level and in Mashpee was provided. The entral pose ofthe council is to diel 'est hlish educ ti nal' ads for the school, to identify instructional needs of the students, to review the school building"s- annual budget and to formulate a School Improvement Plan. The council can consider such issues as facilities management,professional development, discipline,.p arentteacher/community relations, diversity, staffing, gradi ,.etc. It was . indicated'that key goals should not all he'financial in nature sm' ce it 1s difficult to predict the success of any budget issues. we discussed the need to conirnunioate council activities to parents,-and we will be developing a council newsletter within the next month or so., Nick stressed the importance of Anding a way to successfully develop connections to the business and senior communities. 4. t the'next-meeting on November 91h,-we will discuss budget requests for next year in prearation for a November 18"'meeting with the School Committee and we will examine the School Improvement dans which have beenn-adopted at the Coombs School since 1393. .t the next meeting,we will elect a council co-chair and secretary. - .
