i
i -
I .C. Coombs School
School Council Meeting
May 8, 2002
The meeting was called to order at 6:35PM in the K.C.C. conference room.
Present at the meeting were: Louise Doyle, Kathleen Penney, Diane Cook, Greg Taylor,
Alison Robbins, Linda Kot, Daren Tessicini, Jennifer LeFavor and Carolyn Ryan.
I. There weren't any open forum items on the agenda.
II. April minutes were approved with minor revisions. Unanimous.
III. School Budget
•
11 positions will be effected, including, Title One, Special Education, and
Specialists.
Nurse's Aid position is still in question. we do not have proofthat the
grant will be in effect.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten registration is up to 158 students. It is possible that K.C.C. will have
kindergarten classes for the school year 2002-2003.
Validation date for kindergarten accreditation is Thursday, May 16. They will visit 6 of
the 8 kindergarten classes. They will inspect everything,, including, outlet covers, hot
water, and multicultural material in the classroom.
Fencing around the playground will occur within the next couple of weeks, as we do need
it for accreditation. Maintenance is creating signs through the Mashpee D.P.W. outlining
the use.of the sandbox and the playground. The the garden was cleared with the help o
Mr. Krait and the community service members_ The the garden must be completed by
the end of the school year.
We may forecast 10-1retentions in Kindergarten this year. Retention is very
individualized. If a student is on an I. .P., they will move on to the next grade.
Collaborative
We are not sure if the collaborative will be here at K.C.C. next year. They may be in the
Quashnet School. IIIc. Tippo will have a classroom available because they are losing a
third grade classroom. The collaborative students are mainstreamed into the classroom,
especially music and art. A classroom adopts a student from the collaborative and that
student joins the class for its specials.
