Please review your application and if the Hamblin Pond site will
work for you then you can re-apply.
Matoian: I noticed the contamination line in Hamblin is close to the area
we had previously discussed will that effect my crop in the future if I am
granted the area?
Fisher. The contamination line is farther north, from the testing in the
area in the past few years I do not foresee the area being closed to
shellfishing in the near future.
Shellfish Volunteer Program Update on the Community Shellfish Action Plan
The current AmeriCorps member working with the Department of Natural
Resources will be producing broachers to hand out to prospective
volunteers at seminars that will be given at the Library in February and
March of next year. The shellfish division will also be attending the Cape
Cod Regional STEM network Waterworks at the Cape Cod Community
College on January the Sty'. At this exhibit high school students from
across the Cape will be visiting a table set up for our department to recruit
potential volunteers and interns for this coming spring.
New Business-
Capital Improvement—Ockway Landing Building
The Department of Natural Resources is in the process of designing a
building at the Ockway Landing town lot. In this building the department
will design a new lab for water quality testing which is now currently
located at the Police Department. The building will also allow the
Shellfish Division to conduct gear maintenance year round regardless of
the weather. The department requires more space to conduct activities in
compliance to the town's Comprehensive Watershed Nitrogen
Management Plan, and full implementation requires more gear and
maintenance.
2019 Maslipee Shellfish Aquaculture Plan
The shellfish division will be purchasing approximately±4 million(R 1.5)
quahog seed and 2,000 oyster bags for 2019. A seed sorter will either be
purchased for 2019 or used as a shared investment from 4 towns Cape Cod
based on need. If the seed sorter proves to work efficiently the shellfish
division will consider purchase of one either this or next year.
