MASHPEE COMMUNITY GARDEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE (MCGAC) <br /> MEETING MINUTES <br /> DECEMBER 19, 2018 - 7:00 P.M. <br /> MASHPEE TOWN HALL <br /> Present: Virginia Scharfenberg, Pamela McCarthy, Mohamad Fand, Anthony Oliver, <br /> Irene Checkovich, Michael Talbot <br /> Absent: Stephanie Simpson <br /> Call to Order <br /> Chairman Virginia Scharfenberg opened the meeting at 7:05 p.m. <br /> Minutes November 20, 2018 <br /> Motion: Michael Talbot moved to approve the minutes of November 20, 2018, <br /> seconded by Pamela McCarthy. Vote unanimous 6-0 <br /> COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Michael Talbot announced that the Community Preservation Committee approved the funding <br /> for the community gardens. It was noted the funding is subject to town meeting approval. <br /> Thank you letters to 3 subcontractors for CPC proposals. <br /> The Chair stated she will prepare thank you letters to the subcontractors who submitted <br /> proposals for the CPC applications. <br /> Request to Cape Cod Master Gardeners for member assistance to MCGAC <br /> The Chair stated she spoke with Russ Norton at Barnstable County Extension Service and he <br /> said we can't just request physical work from the Master Gardeners. There needs to be an <br /> educational component. She said there is a form we will need to fill out and it can be a one- <br /> time deal. Anthony suggested the members should start thinking about who in our <br /> community do we want to contact for educational presentations. <br /> Pamela suggested contacting different groups to let them know there are garden plots <br /> available. She would put a list together for the next meeting. The Chair will contact the <br /> names that she has to see if they are still interested. Michael suggested setting up a <br /> subcommittee to address membership, member affairs, construction projects, soliciting <br /> donations and people who are interested in the gardens. <br /> Also discussed, is part of the Board's duties and responsibilities is to help solicit private <br /> financial support for the garden sites and related activities conducted at said sites. <br /> The members discussed establishing a nonprofit, a 501C3, to accept donations, i.e. Friends <br /> of the Mashpee Community Gardens. It was agreed they put together a list of questions to <br /> asked town management to present to town council for review. <br /> 1 <br />
