Town, he stated he was convinced that the water footprint in this grant would never, ever revert back to
"open waters"again and will be lost to recreation permanently. Finally, he urged the Town to restore
funding to their own non-intrusive, nitrogen reduction shellfish program in order to meet their Federal
mandate-and, by default, not rely on commercial grants.
A motion was made by Tim Leedham, seconded by Stan Healy to move that the Burtis Grant Expansion
Application be approved with the applicant agreeable to the addition of 3 additional markers(one each
on sides A. D, E.). The proximity of the Falmouth mooring field and the Assoclation/Community dock
were far enough away from the Tract to provide safe navigation. The Applicants, via community
outreach to kayakers, have allowed paddling through the present tract to access the "Island" and the
applicant will continue with that program in the expanded tract should the grant be issued.
Three members voted yes, one member voted no, one member on call in voted yes. Motion passed.
Od Business
Harbormaster Report:
John Santangelo gave the report. He announced that Alex Turner, the Harbormaster, had resigned and
he was attending to those duties. John said the Town would be advertising for a new qualified
candidate. He also mentioned that all the boats were winterized; and equipment stored.
DNR Director Shellfish Constable Re ort
Ashley Fisher said that she was involved in the processing of the proposed shellfish oyster grants. She
announces that two waterway assistants had been hired and an AmeriCorp member had been added to
hersupport group. She noted that green crabs were still a predatory risk to seed.
When asked about how the Town's funding cut will impact future operations for shellfish propagation,
Rick York simply stated that there would be an impact.
Committee Re orfs:
Mashpee/Wakeby Lake and Johns Pond—Rick York noted that the santuit Pond water quality had
improved significantly.
Popponesset Bay Area—John stated that a winter stick blew out and will be repaired.
Waquoit Bay Area—John said there were no issues.
Water Quality Update—No report
Barnstable County Coastal Resources Committee Update—No report
Sewer Committee Update Report—No report, no recent meetings
Public Access Update: No new information reported
Waterways Improvement Plan and Dred in :
Ken Bates reported that work continues on the waterways extensions planning with surveys to be
conducted in the next two to three weeks.
