Mary Lou Palumbo,Executive Director,Mashpee Chamber of Commerce—not present
5. Old Business
Review (Rewrite) Seasonal Sign Code for May Town Meeting
Evan distributed the updated draft of the Seasonal Sign Code for the May Town Meeting. He spoke
about sandwich board signs are only appropriate in a storefront with pedestrian activity. He said a
temporary sign should not be limited to any particular time of the year. It should be a permit with a set
definition. We need to give the Building Commissioner a frame of reference to interpret signage.
Temporary signs for a four month period would be allowed at any time under a certain square footage.
He would also like to insert this in the ERIC manual. Evan stated he will be presenting this to the
Design Review Committee and then the Planning Board in order to be ready for the May town meeting.
The Seasonal Sign Code would allow a temporary sign for 4 months and this can be extended if the need
can be proved, He asked the members to review the draft and to get back to him and he would be happy
to come back after he meets with the Planning Board.
Evan noted he intends to work with the Planning Board over the next year to have them adopt and
approve as a regulatory authority a set of signage design guidelines which would become a regulatory
document outside of the zoning bylaw.
6.
