HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE—MINUTES <br /> THURSDAY,OCTOBER 18,2018 <br /> Committee Members Present: Also Present: <br /> John Calahane <br /> Lynne Waterman Human Services Director Gail Wilson <br /> Veronica Warden Don Howell,Board Chair, Sight Loss Services <br /> Lynne Barbee Corinne Wickel,.Mashpec Substance Use Task <br /> Frank Fantasia Force <br /> Mary Bradbury <br /> Absent: <br /> Ebony Steele <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> Vice Chairman Lynne Waterman called the meeting to order at 2:07 p.m. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS—None <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Review of minutes from September 20,2018 <br /> Motion: Frank Fantasia moved to accept the minutes of September 20,2018 <br /> seconded by Lynne Barbie. Vote 5-0-1 with Mary Bradbury abstaining <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> John Calahane entered the meeting <br /> Guest Presenter—Don Howell, Board Chair, Sight Loss Services <br /> Don Howell stated Sight Loss Services provide services in 5 service areas to 15 towns on <br /> the Cape. He said they get funds in the form of grants from some of the towns on Cape <br /> and try to keep people in their homes as long as possible. He noted their budget is one <br /> third less than it was last year and that they spend 95% of their funds for outreach and <br /> have had to cut back on transportation. They have three part time staff which do <br /> scheduling assessments which translates back to a service. The staff also does education <br /> and awareness and has drafted legislation for a site loss registry. He noted none of their <br /> services is covered by insurance and is a unique agency to the Cape. The Committee <br /> thanked Mr. Howell for attending the meeting. <br />
