Mashpee Substance Use Task Force Update—Corinne Wickel
Corrinne Wickel, member of the Mashpee Substance Use Task Force, gave an update and
stated the Task Force has been meeting for three years. They adopted a model of Drop In
Night from EB Hope. They now meet at the library and over the past two years they
consider each Drop-In night a success because their goal at the onset was if we can just
help one person or family it would be deemed a success. She noted they have marketing
material throughout the community along with cards with information used by the police
department. Corinne said she also sits on the Parent Supporting Parents Group. She
noted with the recent town meeting outcome with the adoption of legalizing recreational
marijuana, this opens a whole new realm of discussion and the Task Force. She noted
they have had generous donations from different businesses in the community with food
and refreshments. Cape Cod Coffee has been a sponsor and the schools have been
providing food. The members thanked Corinne for attending the meeting and for her
update.
Director's Report
The Director noted an article in the Falmouth Enterprise regarding Drop-In Night with a
system where Falmouth residents can sign up for an alert about Drop-In Night. Falmouth
will be assessing the needs for their residents for possibly planning a second Drop-In
night in Falmouth. She noted the Task Force removed the name "Mashpee" in the Drop-
In Night in order to make it general so other towns can participate.
The Director said another big issue is concern with the increase of suicides and suggested
as a group we need to pull together some resources to see if we can make a difference and
figure out ways to educate the public.
There was a discussion on marketing and the distribution of the flyers.
ADDITIONAL TOPICS
This space is reserved for topics that the Chairman did not reasonably anticipate
would be discussed.
Motion: Frank Fantasia moved to adjourn, seconded by Lynne Barbee, vote
unanimous 6-0 Meeting adjourned 3:05 p.m.
NEXT MEETING SCHEDULE—November 15,2018
ADJOURNMENT
Motion: Veronica Warden moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Lynne
Barbee. Vote unanimous 4-0 Meeting adjourned 3:55 p.m.
