Mashpee Commons Chapter 40B Project-The Chair recently met with John Connell
and inquired about the 52 units listed for the Mashpee Commons Chapter 40B project on the
DHCD Subsidized Housing Inventory (SHR). The Chair reported Mr. Connell saying that the
fact the SRI shows 52 units being built; 13 of which would be affordable, does not mean that
Mashpee Commons is committed to completing this phase of their residential development as a
Chapter 40B project. As we are all aware, Mashpee Commons is reconsidering its development
approach using public workshops as part of its information source, and will decide later how it
will proceed with affordable housing.
NEW BUSINESS
DHCD Subsidized Housing Inventory-There was discussion about the accuracy and
point of origin of the list. The Chair stated that DHCD's Subsidized Housing Inventory generally
includes only affordable housing that has already been built and occupied based on data
submitted by the Town. He expressed his concern for the 52 units to be built by Mashpee
Commons that is currently permitted and in the early phase of construction. Most of this phase is
not yet built. The Chair will follow up with DHCD to clarify their rules on when affordable
housing is included on the State's inventory.
OTHER BUSINESS
CORRESPONDENCE
10/31/17 Letter from Habitat for Humanity-The Chair and Mr. Abbott met with
Victoria Goldsmith, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity. Ms. Goldsmith had requested a
letter of support from the Affordable Housing Committee. The letter will require the consent of
the Board of Selectmen.
Ms. Stone•made a motion for Chairman Isbitz to draft a letter to support Habitat for
Humanity for their next project submission and submit it to the Board of Selectmen. Mr.
Abbott seconded the motion. All voted unanimously.
MEETING ADJOURNMENT
Ms. Stone made a motion to adjourn. Mr. Abbott seconded the motion. All voted
unanimously.
