Vote 4-0
The Chair began by thanking everyone for their support in the last couple of months especially during the
time when Bev passed away, He said she was very passionate about this committee and it is time to get
a renewed effort and he would like to do it in her memory.
Discussion of com' pliance with and enforcement of ADA & AAB access requirements to Mashpee
The Town Manager stated the position of Mashpee Commons is they want to do the work on the curb cut
at the Post Office as described in past discussions. The target date is Memorial Day of this year but the
work will be completed prior to the third week in June if they don't meet the Memorial Day deadline. As
far as the Sienna location, they said that was addressed when the organic Parket modifications were
made so there will be nothing else modified. They did tape the position they sincerely hope this-will be a
resolution to the ADA compliance in Mashpee Commons.
The Town Manager said he is in need of clarification of what are the federal guidelines of where these
spaces need to be and how many there has to be. If satisfied he wants to express appreciation to the
Commons for doing what they are doing.
The Chair noted the Mashpee by-law, Chapter 1 ooas well as ADA and AAE regulations indicates
handicapped parking spaces must be on the shortest route to an accessible entry. According to the AAB
if the space is not within 200 ft. a drop off point close to the entrance must be provided. How to interpret
that for a mail such as Mashpee Commons is difficult to figure. The chair welcomes any ideas or
suggestions on how-to get this done.
The Town manager added the contract for the Post Office work is signed sealed and delivered with
Lawrence Lynch.
The Chair was pleased with the Post Office solution. Mike Mendoza added all new development that is
taking place at the commons and elsewhere in Mashpee is reviewed during the permitting process
including the number and location of handicapped parking spaces. As the commons continues its
expansion additional handicap parking spaces will be added as necessary.
Mike Mendoza-stated when a business comes into Plan Review with a new project} they are asked about
the location of the handicap parking. It was also noted that the new Quashnet school project will comply
with ADA and AAB requirements including the doors, the bathrooms, and the lockers. Mr. Mendoza
advised Mr. Wooldridge any time he has a question to give hire a call.
The Chair finished by commenting it would be helpful is if the Commons could install drop off areas. He
also expressed his appreciation to the Town Manager for his efforts.
