' (continued) <br /> Mr.whritenour,Executive Secretary indicated that funds obtained <br /> from the Department of Environmental Management will assist in the <br /> development of a study to evaluate water levels of the pond, and assist <br /> the Town in developing an action plan to protect the river and fisheries. <br /> Mr. McGonagle suggested the Board take immediate action, and graduauy <br /> release water to an acceptable rate through the Town's herring flume. <br /> Robert Sherman,Conservation Agent stated that a Notice of Intent must <br /> be filed to remove stop logs in the M shpee wakeby Pond outlet structure, <br /> Mr. Sherman indicated that he is able to provide support services to file <br /> the Notice of Ment with the Mate to streamline the overall review process. <br /> Mr. Sherman added that specific information relative to the effects of <br /> water levels is a necessary component for the Notice of Intent filing. <br /> Selectman Costa opened the discussion to allow for public input. <br /> Alice Lopez stated that releasing too much water through the flume could <br /> damage the Iashpee River, and result in herring kill. She asked who <br /> would be the liable and responsible party if this were to occur: <br /> George Greer,a member of the Tribal Council and Conservation <br /> Commission stated that the 700 acre pond is stressed. He agreed that the <br /> grater table is 2' higher than normal. He supports the use of an outside <br /> consultant to study the pond, and make recommendations to the Town. <br /> It is our intention to gradually release the water'in the lake indicated <br /> Mr. McGonagle who noted that monitoring points would be strategically <br /> placed along the river to determine the rate and level of the water flow. <br /> Mashpee resident,vera Lopez stated that the use of the stop logs are a <br /> safe method to control water levels. <br /> Harry DeRosiers recommended that the debris located on the bottom of <br /> the flume be removed. He stated that a railroad timber is presently blocking <br /> the flow, and should be removed. <br /> Mr. Sherman indicated that the above recommendations will be addressed <br /> immediately in an effort to manage the present level of the pond. <br /> Mr.McGonagle stated that the Lake Management Committee will file a <br /> Notice of Intent on behalf of the Town as discussed with the assistance of <br /> the Conservation Commission. <br />
