P• <br />F; <br /> AL � gage 2 <br /> k <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> February 24, 1397 <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND I ARM - <br /> De artrnent of Environmental Protection: <br /> Andrea Papadopoulos,Deputy Regional Director of the Department <br /> of Environmental Protection (DEP) was present to discuss the <br /> department's review and assessment of the Augat cleanup design proposal <br /> with members of the Board of Selectmen and interested public. <br /> Gerard Martin, Kevin Kirnan, and Mark wood were also present to <br /> address the initial overview of the design proposal relative to the plume <br /> of groundwater contamination emanating from the former Augat facility. <br /> Augat has proposed to address the contamination that has been identified <br /> by actively remediating the T :E plume within 1500'of their facility, and <br /> allow the remaining 5500' section of the plume to cleanse itself naturally. <br /> The plan being proposed would utilize an air sparging system to cleanup <br /> the first 1500'of the plume extending from the Augat facility towards the <br /> area of Sampson's Hills load. The remainder of the plume would then be <br /> allowed to flow unimpeded, and discharge into Shoestring Pay over the <br /> net twenty years. <br /> Mark wood presented an overview of the subject plume, and stated that <br /> the proposal to treat the first 1500'of the plume is currently under <br /> evaluation by the Department of Environmental Protection. <br /> Mate regulations for oil and hazardous material sites are collectively called <br /> the MA Contingency Plan MCP which is designed to protect health, <br /> safety,public welfare and provide protection for the environment Mnformed <br /> Mr.wood, The plan encourages early risk reduction measures and <br /> accelerated cleanup in addidon to established end pmts. <br /> 1r.wood Mated that Augat discovered and verified the contamination <br /> in January of 1396, and reported this matter to the Department of <br /> Environmental Protection in a timely fashion. Innnediate response Action <br /> (HZA) was established for the private wells impacted by the plume. <br /> Augat provided funding for bottled water, monitoring, and the <br /> installation of carbon infiltration systems indicated Mr.wood. <br />
