Page 5 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> August 11, 1997 <br /> NEW BUSINESS: <br /> Town Meet-in Warrant Review: <br /> The Board of Selectmen reviewed Draft#1 of the Annual Town Meeting <br /> Warrant to be held on Monday, October 6, 1997 at the Mashpee Middle <br /> School. <br /> It is the consensus of the Board to finalize the Warrant at the next <br /> scheduled Selectmen's Meeting. The deadline for advertisement is <br /> Wednesday, August 27, 1997. <br /> A late filed article was received from the Town Planner relative to a <br /> zoning bylaw amendment. <br /> In addition, three late filed petition articles were received that were dated <br /> by the Town Clerk on July 28, 1997, July 29, 1997 and July 30, 1997. <br /> The deadline for petition articles is the second Monday in July or by the <br /> date of July 14, 1997 this calendar year. <br /> Selectman Caffyn requested the Board place the late filed petition articles <br /> on the October Town Meeting Warrant, and request Town Counsel to <br /> review the language of said articles. <br /> It is the consensus of the Board to consult Town Counsel with respect to <br /> the placement of the(3) late filed petition articles, and the proper <br /> endorsement <br /> procedure if placement is approved. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: <br /> Peg Harsch related support with regards to the placement of the (3)late filed <br /> petition articles on the October Town Meeting Warrant. <br /> Betty Nichols requested that copies of future Warrants be provided to the <br /> public attending Selectmen's Meetings. <br /> Jane Labute,Town Clerk confirmed that the deadline for petition articles <br /> as the second Monday in July and the second Monday in February. It was <br /> noted that notification was duly advertised in the local paper. <br /> Dr. Brian Howes, UMass Center for Marine Science and Technology was <br /> present to meet the Board and discuss the water quality monitoring services <br /> for the Mashpee River and Popponesset Bay Watersheds. <br /> A full report will be presented to the Board of Selectmen this fall informed <br /> Dr. Howes. Recent sampling has proved that the Mashpee River is <br /> ecologically stressed as well as ShoeString Bay. The overview will provide <br /> a nitrogen management plan to address local and nutrient concerns. <br />
