Board of Selectmen Minutes 9 December 15, 1997 P-ULjC-CDMIMIENT: George Green, a member of the wampanoag Indian Tribal Council and Conservation Commission expressed support for the petition, and recommended the Selectmen seek alternatives to the expansion proposal to protect the Mashpee River. On behalf of the Board, Selectman Costa accepted the petition signed by approximately 300 residents. The matter will be further reviewed by the Board, and placed on the agenda of the Mashpee Commons Advisory Committee's meeting on Tuesday,December 1 6, 1997 at 4:30 p.m. Dr. Brian Howes updated the Board and interested public on the progress of the Mashpee River study. The final report is due next week. The Cape Cod Commission has committed as a regional regulatory authority,and for funding to conduct nutrient loading assessments. The application for funding as authorized by the Selectmen for the water pollution abatement program has been submitted. The application appears to be favorable, and may develop into a"case" study for the region informed Dr. Howes. Discussion followed with regards to the benefit of a wastewater facility study. Dr. Howes indicated that it is necessary to have a plan to protect Mashpee's resources. Data is needed for land use planning and environmental protection. It is the consensus of the Board to place this matter as a future agenda topic of discussion. APPQZME-NIS AND HEARINGS: Public -Flume Re r t e u t to s : Selectman Costa opened the Public Hearing on the request of The Flume, Inc., d/b/a The Flume,Earle H. Mills, Sr.,Manager, to close from.December 1, 1997 until March 31, 19951, for annual renovations and repairs. Earle Mills was present to request the Board's approval. Selectman Costa opened the hearing to obtain comment. Being none, Selectman Costa requested a vote from the Board to close the Public Hearing.
