Being a town planner for the <br /> past twenty-two years, a quote if often taken inaccuratelyand out <br /> of context. <br /> Mr.Fudala indicated that he feels that he was "suckered" ' ' <br /> suckered into making <br /> a statement, and apolog1zed to the Board for any consternation this may <br /> have caused, and for not being careful enough In his awn response. <br /> Selectman Marsters recommended the Town set up a policy ' <br /> P y relative <br /> to speaking to the media. He suggested reporters check with the <br /> Executive Secretary before interviewing Town employees for further <br /> control an . <br /> d to alleviate this type of occurrence. <br /> Selectmann made note of the letters r ' <br /> �Y received In response to <br /> Mr.Fudala's remarks. She indicated that Mr. Brown stated that although <br /> g <br /> Mr. Fudala's quote sounded derogatory, he believes if fact, it was well 3 <br /> intentioned, and taken out of context. j <br /> In addition, Selectman Gaff n indicated that she would <br /> Y oppose any <br /> motion that would attempt to control the free speech of Town employees,em to ?= <br /> Shea es that employee's p Y <br /> gm i <br /> p yee s should be careful when speaking to the press, <br /> but to set up a policy s wholly against open government. <br /> Mr. Brown should receive a letter of apology from Mr.Fudala stated <br /> Selectman Di*m*zio who indicated that the Town Planner should exercise <br /> better judgment when talking to the media. <br /> Selectman Costa moved to instruct the Executive Secretary to draft <br /> a memo to Mr.Fudala instructing him to refrain from granting extensive <br /> interviews with the press without first receiving clearance from the <br /> Executive Secretary, and request Mr. Fudala to apologize in writing to <br /> Mr. Harry Brown, and authorize the Executive Secretary to draft a <br /> media policy for the Boards review. . <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Marsters. <br /> Discussion followed with respect to the above motion. Attorney Marder <br /> indicated that the Executive Secretary is the proper authority to draft a <br /> media policy, and he is in agreement that the Town should have Y �' a such a <br /> policy. <br />
