Call Meeting to Order <br /> Chairman Carol Sherman opened the meeting at 6:00 <br /> 2. Approval of Minutes - Minutes November 7,2017 <br /> Motion: Denise Dutson moved to approve the November 7, 2017 minutes, seconded by Pamela <br /> McCarthy. Vote unanimous 4-0-1 with Patrice Pimental abstaining <br /> 4. New Business <br /> Discussion—Leslie Richardson, Chief Economic Development Officer, Cape Cod Commission <br /> The Chair welcomed Leslie Richardson Chief Economic Development Officer, to the EDIC Meeting. <br /> The members introduced themselves and Leslie Richardson reviewed her background. She also <br /> reviewed the role of the Cape Cod Commission. She noted any project that has a regional impact can be <br /> referred to the Cape Cod Commission. The Commission is a partnership between the public sector and <br /> the private sector and the government is responsible for representing the public good. She said the <br /> Commission focusses on the economic development side and do that through planning. They have been <br /> able to provide the Reset Program which is technical assistance to towns which focusses on planning <br /> plus on local and regional regulations. It was noted that the Town of Mashpee is working on their <br /> comprehensive plan and will be requesting assistance from the Cape Cod Commission. She said one of <br /> the things they do on reset is to work closely on zoning. The Commission also provides economic <br /> information through basic statistic to the towns. When it comes to business development, we do not do <br /> that because we do not have a one on one relationship with the businesses. She noted capital access to <br /> attract businesses is done by the Feds through the Small Business Administration, Mass Development <br /> and the banks. There is also marketing of the area that is done through the State and the Chamber. The <br /> Chamber does some business training, as does Score as well as the Cape Cod Tech Council. <br /> There was a discussion on the role of EDIC and how to work with the town on regulatory and planning <br /> issues. It was noted EDIC should work with the existing businesses and how they would like to expand. <br /> Leslie spoke about the legislation that was designed for EDIC and suggested revisiting it. She said <br /> section two talks about why this entity exists and what the issues are. <br />
