Marie Stevenson, Gail Wilson, Lynne Waterman, JoAnn Nadeau,Winnie <br /> Johnson-Graham, Louis Homer,Patty DeBoer, Xavier Gonsalves (Non-Voting McOmber) <br /> Also Present: Kim Landry-Affirmative Action Officer John Cotton-Selectman Liaison <br /> Absent: Katherine Brown,Elana Doyle <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Stevenson at 10:00 a.m, with a quorum. <br /> Introductions were made. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES December 11, 2018 <br /> Since a member of the public had been in attendance at the December 11 meeting,the <br /> Committee asked that it be noted in the minutes. Additionally,the Chair referenced her <br /> comments under Committee Member Reports on page 4 in regard to Amanda Church, and asked <br /> that the minutes reflect her role in the R Word Campaign and her willingness to speak at the <br /> school. It was discovered that the minutes distributed were missing pages, so acceptance was <br /> placed on hold until the next meeting. <br /> APPOINTMENTS &HEARINGS <br /> None at this time <br /> COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE <br /> None at this time <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Guest Speaker,Kathleen Mahoney,Library Director-Ms.Mahoney described one of <br /> the goals for the library this year as looking more closely at diversity and inclusion. Library staff <br /> recently completed an online course on the topic. Inclusion and diversity at the library would be <br /> a consideration for the building, the program and the services. Ms. Mahoney provided examples <br /> such as building accessibility through ADA, the provision of hearing packs in the event room <br /> and large screen readers at computers. In addition, the library wished to provide materials that <br /> would be representative of all people,what was currently available on the shelves and as <br /> materials were being purchased. Ms. Mahoney also referenced materials that were representative <br /> of"Our Own Voices,"written by and associated with gender, cultural or ethnicity in an authentic <br /> manner. Additionally, Ms. Mahoney described their collections of video, streaming services, <br /> their Native American collection and Cape Cod collection. When purchasing a new book, the <br /> library considers buying it in print, on CD, large print, e-audio book, in an effort to make books <br /> as accessible as possible, and as allowed with costs. Additionally, items were available through <br /> a statewide exchange, such as Braille books or other materials not immediately available in the <br /> Mashpee Library. The library was in receipt of a State grant forjob preparation training for <br />
