Mashpee Waterways Commission <br /> Mashpee Town Hail, Ma <br /> Minutes of the August 8, 2017 Meeting <br /> Chairman Bates called the meeting to order at 9:05 AM at the Mashpee Town Hall in the <br /> Popponesset Meeting Room. <br /> Present: Ken Bates, Don Barton, Don McDonald,Tim Leedham <br /> Absent:All Wickel, Stan Healy <br /> Also in attendance: Rodney Collins,Town Manager, Alec Turner, Harbormaster, Rick York, <br /> Natural Resources Director, Catherine Laurent, DPW Director. <br /> Minutes of the July 11, 2017 meeting were reviewed. Don McDonald made the motion to <br /> approve the minutes and 2na by Tim Leedham, and unanimously approved. <br /> Appointments and Information Sessions: No Updates <br /> Communications„and Correspondence: Received a dock improvement proposal from a Monomoscoy <br /> Island residence. The proposal will be further examined by the Harbormaster and then returned to the <br /> Conservation Department for additional review for compliance. Documentation was also received <br /> concerning the feasibility for the development of a Town owned marina in Ockway Bay. The exploratory <br /> concept was discussed in the recent BOS Meeting. <br /> Old Business: <br /> Harbormaster repor <br /> Harbormaster Report - Alec Turner reported that he has been issuing new <br /> moorings in the upper and lower Great River. He stated that his department has <br /> stepped up enforcements efforts at John's Pond and Mashpee Wakeby as well <br /> as identifying illegal moorings. Excessive watercraft speeds on the fresh water <br /> ponds continue to be a concern. Don McDonald suggested that HP limits on <br /> engines might be considered to reduce the potential for injuries. <br /> DNR Director/ Shellfish Constable Report - Rick York characterized his <br /> operations as very active, with no major issues, in spite of being short two staff <br /> members at present. He stated that 2,133 oyster bags have been moved to the <br /> Mashpee River for placement. New oyster seed is being deposited in Shoestring <br /> Bay. This placement will mark the end of this particular project and the growth <br /> of this seed will be closely monitord. Rick mentioned that the transfer of a <br /> donated land parcel on Monomoscoy Island may take place later in the year. <br /> This site may be used for shellfish updweller cultivation. <br />
