Page 2 <br /> i <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> August 19, 1996 <br /> f�&Qber T wn M WI�Mft#1 <br /> e�new o ...�........ .�,.,._�:�g_ t, <br /> Economic Development Coordinator,Wayne Duchern n and Economic <br /> Development Committee Ch ' Tom Potts were present with Larry <br /> Cameron of the office of Business Development to discuss Articles#40 <br /> and#41 with the Board of Selectmen. <br /> Article#40 will authorize the Board of Selectmen to prepare an application <br /> to the State to designate the Augat property as an Economic opportunity <br /> Area for economic development purposes. <br /> The designation will enable businesses seeking to locate or expand at the <br /> site to apply for Massachusetts investment tax credits and local <br /> property tax incentives in order to create jobs and economic development <br /> opportunities for our community informed Mr.Duchemin. <br /> Mr.Duchemin indicated that Article#41 proposes to approve the Project <br /> Certification Application of Augat, Inc. for the renovations and expansions <br /> of the facility located within the East Mashpee Economic opportunity Area. <br /> The project as proposed is consistent with and can reasonably be expected <br /> to benefit significantly from inclusion in the Economic opportunity Area <br /> indicated Mr.Duchemin who noted that the Town's infrastructure will not <br /> be overburdened. <br /> In addition,employment opportunities for residents will be increased. It <br /> was noted that approximately 300 jobs were lost due to the closure of <br /> Augat. It is estimated that loo job opportunities will be gained if the Project <br /> Certification is approved. <br /> 3 <br /> Mr.Duchemin recommended the Board designate a negotiating committee <br /> to begin the application process. It was noted that the Project Certification F <br /> Application is anticipated to be received next week. �" <br /> Mr. Cameron discussed the tax incentive process with the Board. <br /> Discussion followed with respect to the suspected contamination emanating <br /> from Augat,and the clean-up measures proposed. Mr. Cameron suggested <br /> to include a provision in the agreement to make the clean-up process a part <br /> of the negotiated incentive package. <br /> The Board expressed concern to the Town's environmental concerns <br /> that should be fully addressed by Augat. <br />
