3. When we start the process of identifying possible contractors to reconfigure the garden
in the fall 2019, pending CPC funding approval, can the committee decide on the
contractors, or must they go through the town's bidding process?
4. If we would like DPW to bring loads of woodchips or soil from the Transfer Station to
the Garden area, who should we contact and if a neighbor donates mulch, can Wayne
Taylor ask DPW to pick up and deliver to the gardens.
Discussion with Russ Norton about Master Gardeners Assistance
The Chair noted Russ Norton made it clear that master gardeners cannot work with the
committee unless there was an educational component. Stephanie gave a heads up that the
master gardeners' objective can be very different than the committee's objective as far as
herbicides are concerned. She said their philosophy may different than the committee's.
Town of Mashpee Annual Report 2018 — MCGAC Proposed Text— February 11, 2019
Deadline
The Chair noted the Annual Report is due on February 11, 2019 and she will prepare the text.
Town Procedures for Accepting Donations to MCGAC
This was discussed previously.
OLD BUSINESS
Community Garden Preparation Start Date: Weed Suppression, Garden Bed
Amendments, Fence Improvements
Anthony noted he would like to start amending the soil after February 1 depending on the
weather. He would use wood chips, leaves and cover crops to amend the soil. It was
suggested to put a tarp down so DPW could drop the chips and leaves. The installation of a
fence was discussed possibly animal fencing. They also discussed asking for a donation or a
discount from local vendors. Mohammed suggested contacting Walpole Fencing.
Continue Discussion on Companies we will be asking for donations for 2019 Season
It was agreed that each member come up with names of suppliers that may want to donate
before they are contacted so that they are not contacted several times.
NEW BUSINESS
New Garden Construction Working Group
Michael suggested adding a New Garden Construction Working Group to help out the
committee. Also discussed was weekly oversight of the gardens on a rotating basis. A team
garden plot was also discussed which could be used as a demo garden and all the members
could take turns working on it.
2
