FROM 508 385 1812 p 2
CAPE COD REGIONA L TRA NSI T A U THORI T Y
585 MAIN STREET(RTC.UA)
OLD DENNIS COURT
P.O.8Qx 2408, DENNIS,MA 0.6.78
(508)385.8311
FAX(508)385-14012
MEMOP ANDUM
To: Mashpee Board of Selectmen
From: Joseph G. Potzka, jr.
Administrator
Bate: December 12, 1996
Subject.* Mashpee Circulator
The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority began service on the Mashpee
Circulator on December 4, 1995, The one-year demonstration grant was
funded out of the Congestion Mitigation Air Quality Program of the
Intermodal Surf ace Transportation and Ef f i ciency Act (ISTEA) . The
route was replaced with the Mashpee Trolley during the summer and
integrated with the SeaLine regional route service. An analysis of the
results are as follows:
~
Ridership: Cane Cod Comms s,ion
Dec. 4. 1995 - Dec. 3. 1996 Estimated Actual*
42■ 161 31541
Mashpee Trolley
(June 2 2 - Sept. 2, 19 9 6) 4.298
* service was terminated during the su-mmer when the Mashpee Trolley
operated and was reinstated in the fall.
-Circulator SeaLine
Average Passenger Trips/Hour 1, 3 5.Q
Gross Cost/Passenger $23 $5
Mashpee subsidy/Passenger $ 4 .20 93 cents
Continuation of the service will require an increase in the Town's
local share from 20 percent to 25 percent.
RECOIENDATICN
The current demographics of the Town do not presently condone year-
round fixed route service. Fixed route transit works best in higher
density corridors where there is more concentrated development, i.e. ,
housing, employment, commercial activities. The lack of ridership and
continued expense to the Town dons not justify continuation of the
service. Therefore, based on the above statistics, the CCRTA
recommends termination of the Circulator on January 18, 1997.
r
JGP/peri
Enclosure
Dist. : B-9, M--1
