Page 5 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> December 16, 1996 <br /> APPS NTS AND HEARING <br /> Sloan re: SiLnnt-Towmrr; <br /> Jeffrey Sloan,Site Acquisition Agent for the NLS Group was present <br /> to request the Board post an RFP for the purpose of leasing 1 600 sq. ft. <br /> of Town owned space to accommodate a 150' communications tower. <br /> Mr. Sloan indicated that a public hearing was held in October to review <br /> the proposal. One hundred and thirty-six notices were sent to surrounding <br /> property owners. Mr. Taylor,Director of Public Works and Mr. Smith, <br /> Assistant Town Planner were the only two attendee's. <br /> In response,Mr.Taylor indicated that the DPW location is the optimum <br /> site for the Sprint Spectrum communications tower. It was noted that the <br /> Police and Fire have expressed an interest in the proposal to improve their <br /> communication systems. <br /> Mr. Taylor stated that the tower as proposed will not interfere with <br /> existing DPW activities. The area adjacent to Ashers Path is located next <br /> to the Town Landfill. The land presently does not generate revenue for <br /> the Town informed Mr. Taylor. <br /> As noted,Mr. Smith voiced concern with regards to the aesthetic view <br /> of the tower from the cemetery location. <br /> Discussion followed with regards to existing communication towers. <br /> It was noted that the Town of Chatham presently has a tower on their <br /> water tank,and derives approximately$15,0[]0-$18,000 in lease <br /> agreement fees. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Nlarsters to entertain a <br /> communications tower in the area as proposed. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Caffyn. <br /> VOIE: Unanimous. 3-0. <br /> Selectman Marsters indicated that he is opposed to a free standing tower, <br /> Recommendations for further consideration include the use of a water Mower <br /> or a church steeple, and to consult Continental Cable with regards to <br /> this matter. <br />
