ti <br /> Page 1 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> November 4, 1996 <br /> Present: Selectman Costa, Selectman Frye, Selectman Musters, <br /> Selectman Caffyn, Selectman Dfi izio <br /> Executive Secretary Robert Whritenour <br /> Meeting Called tooLder by Chairman Costa at 6:30 p.m. <br /> Carol Jacobson Senior Center <br /> M ndu.Q=hfr 21 1926 Reeular si n- <br /> Motion made by Selectman Frye to approve the Regular <br /> Meeting minutes of Monday, October 21, 1996 as presented, <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Caffyn. <br /> VOTE,* Unanimous. 4-0. <br /> Selectman Dinizio abstained. <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS: <br /> Rus ell Peters r : Historic Corridor: <br /> Russell M.Peters was present to discuss a proposal relative to the <br /> development of a system of Wampanoag historic and interpretive exhibits <br /> that would focus on the Mashpee River corridor with members of the <br /> Board of Selectmen. <br /> Mr.Peters indicated that he has compiled data with Joan Avant Tavares <br /> to present the relationship between the Wampanoags and the English <br /> settlers that relate to the settlement period of Plimouth Colony. <br /> The proposed historic district would provide an exciting opportunity <br /> to learn first hand about the history and culture of the Wampanoags through <br /> a combination of conservation land, historic sites and recreational facilities <br /> informed Mr.Peters. <br /> It would also compliment the exhibits DEM has proposed at Plymouth <br /> Rock, and promote additional tourism in the Town of Mashpee stated <br /> Mr. Peters. <br /> Several area attractions would include; the Town Museum, Old Indian <br /> Meeting House, Herring Run, "Farley's" Trout Pond, Canoe Livery, <br /> and the Wampanoag Indian Burial grounds. <br /> Mr.Peters indicated that the Town owned twelve acre site adjacent to <br /> the Mashpee Pond is envisioned to depict an authentic traditional <br /> Wampanoag Village. This exhibit,proposed as an extension of the <br /> Museum,will demonstrate how Wampanoags lived during the 17th <br /> century period. <br />
