Weber, Commissioner Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management 100 Cambridge Street Boston, Massachusetts 02146 - Attention: Peter Smith, Deputy Commissionerwi Dear Commissioner Weber; I am writing to provide you our proposal for developing a system of historic and interpretive exhibits through out southeastern Massachusetts. 1' The Wampanoag sub consultants have collected and reviewed historical data, researched the Colonial period between 1630 and 1690 and visited Colonial Williamsburg and the Jamestown Colony in Virginia. Joan Avant Tavares and myself are compiling the data which will be used to show the relationship between the Wampanoags and the English settlers during that period of the 17th century. We have reviewed the promotional material developed by Ralph Appelbaum Associates. We are excited with the prospect of creating an informative and historically accurate interpretation of that period of the Plimouth Colony history. The proposal to develop a system of historic and interpretive exhibits is attached for your review and comments. This proposal focuses on the Mashpee River Corridor but will be expanded to include historic sites such as Dighton Rock, the Wampanoag Royal Burial site in Lakeville and King Phillips Throne which is located in Bristol, Rhode Island. All of these historic sites will complement the attractions at the Plymouth Rock National Monument. When we initially spoke of the possibility of including the Wampanoag historic sites located outside of Plymouth, it was somewhat vague about how this could be done in a sensitive and relevant way.
