11
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
February 11, 2019
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
Presentation of the FY 2020 Cape Cod Technical High School Budget, Update on Cape Cod Technical
High School Building Project, Superintendent Robert Sanborn: (continued)
With the cost savings in construction costs and interest, the Board of Selectmen requested that desired
elements of the project not be added into the budget. In terms of the project scope a clear line should be
drawn as to the difference in conditions. Mr. Sanborn indicated there is no anticipation to borrow
additional funds or to exceed the planned contingencies. A change order subcommittee will review any
change orders before they are submitted to the 25 member school building committee for approval.
The project is also ahead of schedule with anticipated completion for the 2021 school year. The building
schedule and job progress photographs can be reviewed at w-vNAv.capetech.us/future.
Discussion followed with respect to enrollment. This year's class is expected to graduate 117 students.
The school is strategizing to realign the FTE to the student population. With the reduction of four classes,
the Teacher FTE is down by approximately 8%. It is hopeful the enrollment would increase with the new
school and the per pupil expenditure would lessen. With four less students Mashpee's assessment is down
by$50,000.
Town Planner Evan Lehrer:
2019 Summer Population Projections:
Evan Lehrer, Town Planner was present to review his calculation for the estimated population of Mashpee
during the peak of the summer season. Mr. Lehrer indicated in 2019 the estimated peak population is
35,278 persons in Mashpee. This reflects a marginal population growth from 2018 by 583 persons.
Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to adopt the 2019 Summer Population projection of 35,278
persons residing in the Town of Mashpee.
Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Roll Call Vote:
Selectman Sherman,yes Selectman Cahalane,yes Selectman Gottlieb,yes
Selectman O'Hara, yes Selectman Cotton, yes Opposed, none
