6
Board of Selectmen
*DRAFT*Minutes
February 25, 2019
Discussion of Proposed Town Meeting_Warrant Article— 150th AnniversaryCommittee; Brian Hyde:
(continued)
The proposed theme of the sesquicentennial celebration is Mashpee Shines—Celebrating 150 Years of
Community, Caring, and Culture:
Mr. Hyde reviewed the timeline of events planned from Thursday, May 28, 2020 through Sunday, May 31,
2020. This includes the reenactment of the Town of Mashpee in 1870 with a play/musical, a presentation
of 150 faces of Mashpee, a birthday celebration, a basketball game between the police and fire
departments, celebrity appearances, a taste of Mashpee, entertainment/concerts,trolley tours, a time
capsule, a military flyover, clambake and concert. Community endeavors also include fundraising events,
and a food/clothing drive to benefit the homeless, addiction, and veterans.
There was concern regarding the funding of this project as it relates to the procurement laws imposed by
the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. If the project confirmed to the rules of Chapter 30B regarding
purchasing, funds if supported would derive from free cash.
In considering this proposal and associated costs, it was recommended the event connect with the Town's
Annual Picnic to bring forth a larger fireworks display and possible barbeque. It was recommended the
Recreation Director be consulted regarding this special events project. The Mashpee Chamber of
Commerce was also suggested as a resource for fundraising as well as for sponsorship. The matter was
taken under advisement at this time.
Discussion and Action on Draft#1 of the May 6 2019 Special and Annual Town Meeting Warrant:
The Board of Selectmen tools action on Draft#1 of the May 6, 2019 Special and Annual Town Meeting
warrant as follows;
Special Town Meeting Warrant:
Article#1: To fund a deficit in the Snow& Ice Account—TBD:
Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to approve and recommend Article#1.
Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara.
VOTE: Unanimous. 4-0.
Roll Call Vote:
Selectman Sherman,yes Selectman Cahalane,yes Selectman Gottlieb,yes
Selectman O'Hara,yes Opposed, none
