3
Sewer Commission
Minutes
February 7, 2019
Status of Sewer Commission Administrator position:
The Town Engineer/Assistant DPW Director position was duly advertised on February 3, 2019.
The deadline for applications to be submitted to the Human Resources Department is February
19, 2019.
Status of Selectmen and Finance Team discussions regarding Financing and Organization of
Wastewater System Implementation:
The Town Manager's Financial Team is expected to make recommendations to the Board of
Selectmen regarding the financing and organization of wastewater system implementation in
early March.
Selectmen January 14 and 15 Wastewater Meetings—Any reports from Commissioners:
A brief discussion followed regarding the workshop on Wastewater sponsored by the Board of
Selectmen on January 14 and January 15, 2019. Regulatory officials from the Conservation
Commission, Board of Health, Planning Board, Sewer Commission and Zoning Board of
Appeals were in attendance. Sewer Commission members Joseph Lyons and Bradford Pittsley
were present for the discussion facilitated by Jeff Greg of GHD, Inc., Mashpee's wastewater
consulting engineer.
Mr. Gregg reviewed in general, the components and analysis of the Plan. This includes best
practices for managing operations, watershed agreements, potential site locations and revenue
streams. There was a bit of dissatisfaction that no secondary meetings are planned to effectively
work on this approach.
It was noted there was some inquiries from the attendees, but not a lot of substance. There was
comment regarding phosphorus, lead and Prozac levels in drinking water. Phosphorus is not as
prevalent, and this should not be an issue in sewer processing as the treatment is intended to
remove contaminants. Increased development adds to nitrogen loading and should be addressed.
