He also said that Police Chief Frye <br /> said he could use a corner of the police station, (the drunk tank) for some <br /> means of an office. He said this could accomodate a coulple of people and <br /> that he spoke to the owner of the wigwam and that could accomodate up to <br /> 200 people . Chm. Thomas said you have to designate a disaster area, Mr. <br /> Hicks said he had spoken to Mr. Godlesky and was told that $37 ,000 . was ap- <br /> propriated for Civil Defense, than he talked to Mr, Mitchell , who said there <br /> was no money. Sel . Garland explained what had happen with the program. <br /> Chm. Thomas asked about the meeting where a representative would explain the <br /> guidelines for reimbursement of your expenses . Mr, Hicks said he did not <br /> attend, he was occupied somewhere else that day and he had forgotten. <br /> Chm. Thomas said that all these things are his responsibility. Chm. Thomas <br /> asked Chief Frye to speak on these matters . He said he had spoke to Mr. <br /> Mitchell and we should forget the funding. He said once the garage is moved, <br /> Mr, Hicks can store the cots and it will be close to the school, and police <br /> station. He feels they can handle a disaster. Chm. Thomas asked that they <br /> prepare a plan in place to present to the Board that would benefit the Town. <br /> Chief Frye also said the plan for nuclear attack should be updated. Sel. <br /> Garland asked if the Police still had the partial wall, desk and file . <br /> Chief Frye responded that they did, Chm. Thomas said that Civil Defense can <br /> play a big roll in Town, that there is alot they can do. Chm. Thomas asked <br /> Mr. Hicks to meet with the Board in the middle of January and- let them know <br /> how things are getting along with this plan. Chief Frye said that we should <br /> get the communication center going when money is available, Sel . Garland <br /> said that if Mr, Hicks has any questions about the radio he should contact <br /> Mr. Henry English. Chm. Thomas asked if Mr. Hicks had met with all his <br /> members . Mr, Hicks said he had not. Chm. Thomas told him he should pull them <br /> in and work together. Sel. Garland said our biggest threat is not nuclear but <br /> hurricans and fires . He said that Mr. Hicks should find out who has trucks , <br /> bulldozers , and chainsaws . What is the procedure . Chm. Thomas suggested that <br /> Mr. Hicks contact the Civil Defense office in Falmouth and get some ideas, <br /> Chm. Thomas thanked Mr. Hicks and Chief Frye for coming and said now you <br /> have some idea of what we want. <br /> 1-3. ) Board discussed signs with Mr. Harold Collins , Building Inspector. <br /> Mr, Collins said that Mr. Umina' s sign and the sign at United Church <br /> Village are illegal . He said he spoke to Mr.Sherman of United Church <br /> Village and he will remove the sign to comply with regulations . Mr. <br /> Collins said neither have permits . Sel, Garland asked if they had <br /> state permits. Mr, Collins said no. Discussion followed on signs in <br /> general . Board feels there are alot more marquis signs going up. Sel . <br /> Garland wants the sign at the cinema removed. SE1. Garland said when <br /> signs are up and the business closes , the signs should be taken down, <br /> this is proper. Chm. Thomas feels we need to get a handle on this now, <br /> Mr, Collins said the state laws are more strict than our zoning laws . <br /> The signs at Jean' s Bakery was discussed. Chm. Thomas asked if we can <br /> get control on this until the Board of Appeals can do something about <br /> this . Chm, Thomas also laid that the type of sign could be made a <br /> condition when a new place comes in. The new TeleRental place was <br /> discussed. Mr. Collins said he had left regulations there yesterday. <br /> Sel. Garland said they are going to open November 11. Board discussed <br /> the fact that they have already been to the Board of Appeals but they <br /> have not rendered a decision yet. Therefore they cannot open. Chm. <br /> Thomas wants this to be enforced. Mr. Collins will go see them, Board <br /> discussed political signs . Mr. Collins said that if the Board comes up <br /> with something he will enforce it. Board asked if there was penalty <br />
