compan, ,CIt, do anything until the police and fire department have finished
their i! stigation, and no one has any answers about what your suppose to do.
I am a firefighter, Sgt. Cooper is a police officer, I think we were put in the
middle between the Trembletts and their insurance company, as far as actions
taken by their insurance company. The insurance company doesn't tell me how to
run an investigation and I don' t tell the insurance company how to run their
business. I think Mrs . Tremblett was alittle upset . Maybe she felt the inves-
tigation was dragging or that it was our fault that she wasn' t getting any -re-
ponse
ny -re-
ponse from the insurance business, ,but I am not in the insurance business and
neither is Sgt. Cooper. We don't tell the insurance company what to do, and
they don' t tell us what to do . I tried to explain this to Mrs . Tremblett, but
I don' t think she understood, very well. " Sel. Garland, "I think your statement
is probably correct. " Chm. Thomas , !',that was evident when she was in here. "
Sel. Garland, " I can also understand and would support a position that if
there is an ongoing investigation on this or any other situations and there is
insurance money involved with it, that the insurance company would probably lay
back until such investigation was completed . " Firefighter Martini , " I don' t
know what the procedures are. Sel. Garland, "I am assuming this . :'Now both of
you gentlemen stipulate that neither of these statements are true. " Firefighter
Martini, "I think it is more of an interpretation thing, she interpreted it one
way .and it was meant to be said in an other way. " Sgt. Cooper, " I believe it
was taken out, of context, alot of it , I think it was her personal , how she felt,
how we were conveying ourselves , how we were trying to complete our investigation.'
Sel. Garland, " I have one more question to Firefighter Martini , did you at any
time contact the insurance company and advise them not to settle, " Firefiqhter
Martini , " no, I just got through saying, I don' t tell the insurance company
what to do and they don' t tell me what to do . " Sel. Garland, "I have no further
questions . Chm, Thomas , " I have no further questions either. " Chm. Thomas
asked the concerned parties if they, had any questions of the Board or anything
else they wanted to say . Sgt. Cooper gave a letter from the Mashpee Police
Assosciation. He said if you have .any questions he would address the letter.
Chm. Thomas read the letter out loud, and I quote : " Dear Selectmen;
Our members would like to express our disappointment in the manner of handling
the citizen complaint of Mrs . Christine Tremblett, (Mashpee Police Case 082-
1907) . It is felt that initially, complaints of this nature would be more
appropriately addressed by the utilization of the "Citizen Complaint Procedure"
as formulated by the Chief of Police in General Order 1500 . 40 . We support Sgt,
Cooper in his effort concerning the investigation. Respectfully'.' Chm. Thomas
said, " she did not come in primarily to present a complaint, this came in the
course of, first of all, her trailer permit, not having any place to turn to ,
her insurance and thus the allegations on the performance of the people concerned'.'
Firefighter Martini , " in other words it was a place for her to say what she had
on her mind. " Chm. Thomas, "exactly, a citizens right, anyone that lives in
this Town that has a beef, has.a aright, and thanrwel:have to get the other side of
the story. There is always two sides to a story. Sgt. Cooper, I agree with
you, but I have certain rights too , and that order was approved by the Board
of Selectmen and was written by the Chief of Police and that should be the pro-
cedure , no matter how minute or- how the complaint was received. I have no qualms
that she had a complaint but personally as far as I am concerned those complaints
are not justified, I will be able to defend myself in any forms and any complaints
should go through the department and the Police Chief investigates it and comes
back with his findings . " Set. Garland, " the point that is being missed here
is that Mrs. Tremblett chose this office in the presence of news media to make
this statement and I think in defense of yourselves your side of the story
should be exposed to the medea, " Sgt. Cooper, " I think the medea would still
get the story anyway. " Sel. Garland, " I wish I could be as sure . " Sgt. Cooper,
"if the chief gave you the results of his investigation I don't see any problems
