Page 9 .
Chief Priestly : "gate.
Chm. Thomas : " We never said that. "
Sel. Garland: " I don' t feel that is our choice, that ' s your department,"
Chief Priestly: " Okay, I understand, I ,: myself feel a certain amount of
aggressiveness is necessary. "
Chm. Thomas : "Fine , but there is a manner. .. "
Chief Priestly: "I am so concern that when' I see Sgt. Cooper or Martini
get discourage, or inhibited. . . "These men do a good job, "
Chm, Thomas : " We are not saying that they, don ' t do a good job. We are
saying that someone is questioning the manner in which it
was done, Maybe you know, we don ' t know that. "
Chief Priestly: "Do I make my point clear?"
Chm. Thomas : " We understand. We watch alot of these programs with a steady
hand. "
Sel. Garland: "There may be a better of doing it. I don' t dispute your
analysis that there has to be an ongoing investigation, but
you sure don' t have to hit someone over the head. "
Chief Priestly: " I agree. "
Chm. Thomas : " Like Frank Hicks was saying once, when the Board was every-
thing wrapped up into one , and there was a problem at Attica
with a young gentlemen . He just went over and picked him up
by the arms and threw him up against the wall and said, now
.are we going to have any more problems with you. Well , you
couldn ' t do that today , You couldn' t. "
Sel, Garland: " I think somebody like Ernie Flynn, you know Ernie , I don' t
know what he is doing. I think he has the ability to do this
thing properly and quietly . "
Chief Frye : " I think that is the right thing. "
Sel. Garland: "I would. suggest that, I am sure these gentlemen are going to
be in an uproar again, and I can understand why, but I would
suggest that they try to realize that we are trying to remove
the illness here, if such an ,illness exists . Not to prohibit
them from doing 'there job. "
Chm. Thomas : " Is there anything else you would .like to throw at us while
you are here?"
Both Chiefs : 10111
Chm. Thomas : " Okay, thank you for coming, we are sorry she has pursued this ,
but that is her rights to. "
