Page. 8.
l
Chief Priestly : "I ► myself did not. "
Sel . Garland: " When I say you I am using the broad sense of the word, I
mean the Fire Department. You o not communicate these
findings directly to the insurance company?"
Chief Priestly : " All I can tell you is thatAuring'.the investigation of
this particular . fire , the state fire marshall was there,
Sgt. Cooper was there , the insurance company was there ,
Mr. Martini was there, and I was there , and they discussed
the fire and the probability surrounding that fire . How
you want to interpret that, is- whether itis -inter-depart-
ment or inter-company, I don' t know. "
Chm, Thomas : " They pooled there information. "
Chief Priestly: " I would think so. I suppose the insurance company through
a private investigator found something that would inter-
est the fire department than he would communicate it to
the fire department .'
Chief Frye : "Does the State really is in charge .of the . . . "
Chief Priestly: "Yes , the laws says that':the' State must be notified of any
fire. "
Chief Frye: " It is like on a homicide the DA takes over. Any information
that goes out, he is responsible for that. I thought that
was the way with the State Marshal. "
Chief Priestly : " I don' t think he would divulge information if he thought
there was a case pending','
Chm. Thomas : " Than you gentlemen are completely satisfied, fee.lcomfortable
with that we will get an outside investigator?"
Both Chiefs : "Yes . "
Chm. Thomas : "So be it, "
Sel. Garland: " I think it. is important- not only for these people, but for
your own people , your personnel , to scratch this thing out
and get it settled. if it means a tightening up of your
procedures so that firefighter X or patrolman Y makes no
statements other than statements in process of investigation,
and that is the end result . I have, and I have disqualified
myself previously, I have some very strong.'feelings that
Mr. Martinin could have very possibly made these statements .
I don' t think Mr. Martini gives a dam about anybody or any-
thing. "
Chief Priestly: " I understand. Can I sort of take •my hat off for a minute .
Rich is a very outgoing, very .outspoken individual . It is
this type of individual who is a good investigator, this
I believe. I would like to see him continue to investigate.
You may as a Board say, hey, I don' t want him to investi-
