Page 4 .
r
Chief Priestly: "what it is . "
Chm. Thomas : "I think that is as - it should be . It is the manner in which
an individual is conducting that investigation. I think that
is what is being question here by this individual, not by me.
But this is what is being questioned by- this individual is
the manner by which this investigation is being conducted,
You will never know and I will never know what actually trans-
pired between these individuals in terms of words said, we
will never know. However, she has gone , she saw fit to put
in a formal letter. Do you have anything to add to that Chet? "
Sel. Garland: " Yes , and I have to qualify what I have to say by admitted
up front that I am very prejudice against Mr. Martini, In
the stand point that I have seen and personally experienced
his absolutely total arrogance towards anybody or anything
that tends to direct himin a proper direction. I could lend
some credence to the fact that he may have said you are under
suspicion. I think it is a highly improper statement to make.
If it was made , I- can somewhat believe that he could of made
it.
Chief Priestly: "I can' t say one way or the other. "
Sel. Garland: " Because in my opinion he is terribly arrogant individual .
Just the way he sat here the' other day , when we were all
here, slouched down- in the-'-chair and-.his feet up on the chair
i
in front of him. He just doesn't give a dam about anybody
or anything, in my opinion. So on that basis I am going to
have to disqualify pretty much what I say. I am dertermine
that we are going to get to the bottom of this . I have no
qualms whatsoever for a full scale investigation taking
place by your department -or the police department on any sub-
ject that comes within the perview of your departments , I
have a tremendous amount of objection if this investigation
is done in an improper manner. I feel that if these allega-
tions are true, that is an improper manner. "
Chief Priestly: " I ' ll go along with that. "
Sel. Garland: " I further feel that if these people are asked to appear at
the scene and are made to wait there for several hours , she
doesn' t say by whom, I think that is improper manner. I think
if the person was requested to go back to the police department
a number of times , that may not be quite right, how many times
do you have to have a person in, how many times do you think
a question that you should of asked the last time you saw them;
What I question of this whole thing is not the fact that an
investigation took place, . it might still be on going for all
I know, it is the fact of the improper conduct to a resident
of this Town, regardless whether these people may or may not
be guilty of anything, They do have basic rights . That where
I find the whole problem is . Personally I doubt very much if
they would commit, unless they were insane,, commit these sta-
tements in writing if there wasn' t some basis for this . I think
I can regognize the fact that these people have had a herendous
experience . "
