Page S .
Chief Priestly : "I know because it has happened to me as well. "
Sel. Garland: "Their reaction may be colored by this experience, they
may be exagerating, I don' t know who they are but if in
fact that this statement here at least a half a dozen
timest.contrary to popular believe we are guilty until
he proves us innocent, I think that is a highly improper
statement. If he did make it, I don' t know. "
Chm. Thomas : "And sometimes you can be very intimidated, like you can as
an individual feel that they are guilty and you can project
that without saying anything, by the manner in which you
are interrogated. You can tell when you are up against a guy
that doesn't believe what you are saying. I think this is
what I got out of the meeting when she was here . I definately
get this out of this letter, ' She was put in a position of
being intimidated, I don ' t know, What would you fellas want
us to do? Would you like us to get someone from the outside?
What do you think?"
Chief Frye : " I myself am not going to investigate this . "
Chm. Thomas : " I think it would be very difficult for you. You can' t come
up with anything other than a hundred percent. "
Chief Frye: "I know both fellows well. I would probably be a litte .prejudice . "
Sel. Garland: "I don' t know whether her statement here is correct or not ,
the question by having us come to the fire station on several
occasion for questions and reading us the meranda rights , we
could read this one way that the fire department read them
the meranda rights , I don' t know. "
Chief Priestly : " To be honest with you Mr. Garland,. I sat in on a couple
of those meetings . The decorum of those meetings was
nothing, there was absolutely nothing to indicate that
he was belligerant or, that is the truth, I don' t know
whether this lady is over reacting or not. "
Chm, Thomas : " We don' t know either. "
Chief Priestly: "I find it:.dfficult ,to- understand when we had the public
meeting here with the press why she didn' t appear if the
charges were legitimate . Why then was she not here?"
Chm. Thomas : " Well we unfortunately I asked that we .did not inform her
that we were having that meeting. "
Sel. Garland: " Your talking about the informal meeting?"
Chm. Thomas : "Yes , it was an informal meeting. So Chief can you give us
some guidance , or where can we turn to get the outside indi-
vidual to look into this matter, "
Chief Frye : " Kind of tough to say . I wouldn' t want the DA in on this
I don ' t think it is that important. "
